The county court order book is a transcript of orders issued by the court and is essentially concerned with the administration, supervision, and regulation of county affairs. Order books may include such records as probate records; road orders; lunacy inquests; bonds, reports, and settlements of public officials; occupational licenses; naturalization records; and records concerning the administration of the fiscal affairs of the county. Entries may include date, term of court, names of principles, nature of order, and signature of county judge.

Kenton County was formed in 1840 from Campbell County and named for Simon Kenton. It has two county seats, Independence and Covington, both in existence since the 1850s. The Kenton County Clerk, whose duties are numerous and diverse, records and maintains various legal instruments and Fiscal Court records.
